Topic: Introduction to Computers and JAVA - 1.4 to 1.5

 

Objective: The students will read Chapter 1 sections 1.4 through 1.5. We will discuss what a program is, why we use it, and the various programming languages that are available. The history of JAVA and Applets will also be discussed. We will look at the common language elements by looking at a JAVA program and identifying an instance of each of the elements. The process through which a program goes through the compiler and virtual machine will be discussed.

Objective:  The students will begin building a room in the Unreal Editor. They will learn how to size the room, build the geometry of the room, and add/subtract from the room. They will continue to add features to the room they are building. They will learn how to align textures so that they fit the walls and the floors. The teacher will also demonstrate how to add lighting to the room. All lighting options will be discussed. The students will add lighting to their rooms. Students will finish their first room today. Their room will be graded.

 

Assignment: Finish “First Room” and submit it to our online classroom for grading.

Topic: Expanding Your Room – Hallways

 

Objective:  The students will add a second room to their world. They will size it and give all the walls, floors, and ceilings textures. The teacher will demonstrate how to create a hallway between the two rooms to connect them together. The students will create a hallway of their choice to connect the two rooms they are working on. They will use alt-RMB to copy a texture from a wall and alt-LMB to paste the texture to a new wall. They will also learn about the Vertex Snap Toggle tool. The students will learn about fixing alignment problems that sometimes occur as a result of adding and subtracting textures. The teacher will demonstrate how to fix alignment problems with the floor texture between the two rooms. Repeats in texture and texture flipping will also be discussed. The students will learn about the Texture Pan tool and the Texture Rotate tool. The students will fix any alignment problems they have in their worlds.
